A Future Father Speaks
So, I finished the my latest HOW TO BE A DAD book recently. It was entitled “The Expectant Father” This book didn’t freak me out with hundreds of advanced female anatomy diagrams, pregnancy warning signs, stats on SIDS, or how to care for an infected episiotomy incision (that was actually covered in another book).
Looking forward….
The future is a vast and ever changing cloud of possibility. Now that the kid is in the mix…that cloud is much bigger with 10000 more possibilities. UGHHH…lets assume that my new kid-to-be is free of all diseases, forms of chromozone abnormalities, and all the billions of things that could go wrong with a pregnancy and appears … normal. YAHOO!
What if he is a bad kid…the ones that cry just to cry on airplanes, the ones that give teachers ulcers, the kind that make you not want kids in the 1st place. OMG that would be a nightmare!!! Read the rest of this entry
Pregnancy Hormones: A male perspective
There is a stigma attached to a woman during pregnancy.
The mystique is similar to a lioness protecting her cubs mixed with an emotionally unbalanced circus clown (the crying one). This alone scares men. Some buy shirts for the mothers-to-be:
These shirts and the like aren’t so much a WARNING to others as they are more of a reminder to themselves that “She is volatile.” Post-It notes were invented by a man. There is no shock there. We need to be reminded.
Catharsis (or Holy Shit we are Pregnant)
Sarah Palin, Tea Parties/Baggers, Right Wing Mentality, Bad Drivers, Rude Servers, Texas, Low Battery Warnings on my iPhone, the dog’s accidents, Work Dissatisfaction, that light on the Frozen Coke machine being on, and my stuffy nose don’t bother me today. I dont think they will bother me as much anymore. Yesterday something happened. No, I was not almost killed and saw the fleeting flash of life before my eyes. Just the opposite. I saw my unborn son’s heart beating in his mother’s womb. In that instant, as cliche as it sounds, it all changed. Read the rest of this entry
